Guma presently jointly owns Gen Technologies (50/50) with Everest Systems Solutions (an SMME company) and was formed in January 1999 with a focus on the citizen security, inter alias, identity documents, passports, elections etc. Gen Technologies provides system integration, project management and technical support services to its customers.

  • Gen Technologies have developed and trained staff in the integration, installation, operation and support of AFIS systems - back records conversion and verification systems.

  • Guma Gen Technologies is presently involved in the Home Affairs National Identification System (HANIS) project together with the likes of Unisys and NEC as joint venture partners, in the design of the back office for the upgrade of the national identification system from a book-based system to a card-based system in South Africa.

  • Gen Technologies has a highly skilled staff complement. Gen Technologies, being a 100% black owned and managed company, has ensured that Affirmative Action principles are strictly adhered to in recruiting staff. Our workforce is recruited predominantly from the previously disadvantaged communities.

  • Gen Technologies has the necessary skills in biometric products supplied by NEC, Sagem etc. Further, Gen Technologies has expertise in system integration and project management as well as both barcode and smart card based identity cards.

  • The company also has a solution for smart card based passports. The company has an election solution that deals with the registration, capture & scanning of biometrics and information that is used to create a voters roll. We also have ability to assist the electoral commission in running the election, printing of ballot papers (secured), distribution of election material, capturing and verification of results etc.

  • Guma Gen Technologies is responsible for a minimum of 30% of the job scope and revenue in the project and to date approximately R2 billion worth of services and equipment has been provided.
